As a quick and inexpensive way to browse Mac files, this no nonsense app isnt all bad. But there is definitely room for improvement. The App Store banner states the app is on sale, marked down from $14.99. I would not pay $15 for this app.
(-) Just bought Xview and used it for about 15 minutes. I am rather disappointed I cannot create a custom category with which to flag my images. For instance, it would be convienient for me to be able to create a "PSD" image/category flag to allow me to assign and only view .PSD files in a given folder (searching on psd doesn’t work). Or perhaps a clients name, or project date, or… you get the idea. Without that powerful ability, this app wont see a lot of use by me in the future.
(-) The Xviews "preferences" option is grayed out. Surely there are some preferences that could be stuck in there to help a user customize the app. For instance, "custom categories" :)
(-) There is apparently no associated Xview help. No matter how KISS an app is, imo, there should be a help file.
(-) I opened an MP4 movie that was located in one of my project files. I would like to have an option of switching between thumbnail and file (list) views, to better see creation/modification dates and file sizes BEFORE selecting the movie for full view. The same is true with images. For movies, unlike Finder, Xview shows the Quick Time thumbnail for .MP4 and .MOV files, rather than the first video frame. If that is the case, Id rather see the files in list view anyhow.
(+) I am pleased Photoshop .PSD files show up in the Xview browser. It would be nice to be able to right click/open them within their native app (or any file for that matter) directly from within the Xview browser.
